President’s Message
Innisfil Hydro was formed when the Town of Innisfil was established in 1991 by Provincial Legislation, The County of Simcoe Act 1990. In 1993, electricity distribution assets were purchased from Ontario Hydro. From that time, Innisfil Hydro Commissioners and staff have embarked on a mission of reducing costs and at the same time, improving service levels. From 1993 to 2000, the Commission had reduced Hydro rates six times in those seven years.
Innisfil Hydro operated as a not-for-profit Hydro Electric Commission up until November 1, 2000. At that time, the Commission was forced to incorporate into an Ontario Business Corporation Act company with the passing of Bill 35, The Energy Competition Act 1998.
Any profits now made by Innisfil Hydro do not leave Innisfil, they are returned to the residents through dividends made to the Town of Innisfil. Under the watchful eyes of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Council, Innisfil Hydro dividends are directed to areas that will provide the greatest benefit to the municipality.
The Chairman of the Board is the Town of Innisfil’s Chief Administrative Office, John Skorobohacz. With support from Director Brian Jackson (Mayor) and Director Robert Lake, (retired President from Peterborough Utilities Inc), astute and pragmatic governance of Innisfil Hydro is assured.
Sustainability and environmental stewardship are evident within corporate values. Almost one half of the vehicle fleet will be hybrid in 2010 and will continue to grow with the attrition of older vehicles. All transformers have been PCB free (<50 ppm) since 2005 and constant improvements in electrical infrastructure are undertaken to reduce line losses.
Innisfil Hydro staff ranging from senior management to unionized staff represented by the Power Workers’ Union, work together in harmony to fulfill the corporation’s Mission and Vision Statements. I am proud to be a member of this fine organization.
