Earth Hour 2011
Innisfil, ON (April 6, 2011) – Innisfil and South Barrie residents and businesses used less electricity during Earth Hour, which was held on March 26, 2011. Innisfil Hydro has calculated a 2.5% decrease in the electricity used for Innisfil and South Barrie compared to the normal energy use between 8:30 and 9:30 pm. This compares to a 2.1% electricity reduction for all of Ontario as reported by the Independent Electricity System Operator.
“This was the fourth year that the Town of Innisfil has participated in Earth Hour and the Ontario average was beaten again”, mentioned Mayor Barb Baguley. “I congratulate those who participated in making a noticeable impact with their conservation efforts”.
To support Earth Hour 2011’s movement to conserve energy “beyond the hour” , hydro users are being encouraged to visit Innisfil Hydro's web site for a list of conservation tips and programs.

Earth Hour 2010
The Independent Electricity System Operator reported that Earth Hour 2010 electricity consumption compared to a typical Saturday in late March, demand for electricity in Ontario fell by approximately four per cent as a result of Earth Hour. Innisfil Hydro customers in Innisfil and South Barrie had achieved a 6.57% reduction for Earth Hour 2010. This is an outstanding achievement showing that electricity consumers collectively can take action that is noticeable and substantial.
Earth Hour 2009
Comparing the total electricity used in Innisfil on March 28, 2009 from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the overall drop was 7.4%. On a typical day, electricity usage would normally drop by 2.7% from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM so that Earth Hour activities in Innisfil have an estimated electricity reduction impact of 4.7%. This works out to be a 74% better response compared to last year.

Innisfil Hydro Earth Hour Results for Saturday March 29, 2008
8:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
Wholesale metering information indicates that electricity demand for Earth Hour 2008 had achieved a 5.39% decrease in electricity usage. The Independent Electricity System Operator said that across Ontario, consumption was down about 5.2% indicating that Innisfil Hydro customers have exceeded the 5% goal that Earth Hour Organizers had set and that they have exceeded the Ontario Average.
